As doenças não transmissíveis, como as cardiovasculares e respiratórias, são a principal causa de mortalidade no mundo, responsáveis por 63% das 57 milhões das mortes registradas em 2008, segundo relatório da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS).
"A maioria destas 36 milhões de mortes se deve a patologias cardiovasculares e respiratórias, diabetes e câncer", afirmou a responsável do departamento de Doenças Crônicas e Promoção da Saúde da OMS, Leanne Riley, na apresentação em Genebra do relatório.
As doenças cardiovasculares foram as responsáveis por 48% dessas mortes, seguidas pelo câncer (21%), problemas respiratórios (12%) e diabetes (3%).
Riley explicou que o motivo pelo qual estas doenças são a principal causa de mortandade no mundo é porque nos últimos 30 anos se impôs um estilo de vida muito mais sedentário e mudanças na dieta, na qual predominam açúcares, gorduras saturadas e sal, o que provoca problemas de saúde como colesterol e pressão alta.
Do total de mortes por doenças não transmissíveis, noves milhões foram de indivíduos menores de 60 anos e 90% destas mortes prematuras ocorreram em países menos desenvolvidos, onde as pessoas apresentam até o triplo de probabilidades de morrer com menos de 70 anos.
Segundo explicou a especialista, nos países em desenvolvimento este tipo de doenças costumam ser detectados mais tarde e os tratamentos nem sempre estão ao alcance de todos, por isso os mais prejudicados costumam ser os setores mais pobres da população. |
